Davenport Screw Machine Shop

A Davenport Screw Machine is an automatic, multiple spindle screw machine recognized for decades as the right solution for an endless variety of high volume turned parts produced from bar stock.

Common applications for these machines are turned parts ranging from 1/16” up to 1.00” diameter.  Common materials include aluminum, copper, steel, and even plastic. We also have CNC lathes to complement our Davenports but for higher volume parts our lathes would not be the right choice or competitive.

Advantages to the Davenport is an affordable turned part for high volume applications.  With the correct geometry, these machines are the most cost-effective way to manufacture certain parts.  Faster than a CNC lathe or a Swiss-type Screw Machine. However, Davenport Screw Machines are not as precise as a CNC lathe or an automatic Swiss-type screw machine.  The tightest tolerances we can hold on our Davenports are usually about +/- .002” depending on the part. A typical volume for these machines would be anywhere from 10,000 pieces up 10,000,000 pieces annually. Davenports are unique being able to attack a part with 5 different operations simultaneously and usually producing a part in a matter of seconds.

We have five Davenport Screw Machines accommodating work .125” -. and up to 4.250 long. These automatic lathes can create cross-drilled holes and milled flats simultaneously while turning the cylindrical features to minimize secondary processing. Traditional turning machines needed to be shut down and retooled to perform the secondary operations. With our Davenport Screwmachines, we can machine metal by drilling, tapping, cross drilling, shaving, flats, burnishing, thread rolling, slotting, burr removal, and much more in one operation. This allows us to perform cost-effective runs as small as 2000 pieces due to a consolidated setup process prior to the manufacturing run.

Screw Machine products are usually turned metal components manufactured in steel, stainless steel, brass, titanium, aluminum, and copper. These machines are ideal for high volume parts that are round, square, or hex shaped.
