Toolmaking

CAR Engineering and Manufacturing takes great pride in its toolmaking department.  Here, gauges, fixtures and other mechanisms are routinely built, to meet stringent customer requirements.  Our toolmaking department is prepared to either design and build projects or assist on pre-designed projects.

We build all our dies in-house. This includes drawing the tool in AutoCAD, making the components, spare details, and die maintenance. Our specialty is progressive dies, but we also make compound dies.

Wire EDM at CAR

Wire EDM is a precision machining process that cuts metallic materials using a thin wire electrode immersed in a bath of de-ionized water. CNC controlled electrical pulses are transferred between a constantly moving brass wire and the metal surface being machined. Each pulse generates a spark causing molecular metal erosion as a machining function. In simple terms Wire EDM can be described as “welding in reverse.”

The Wire EDM department services both external customers as well as CAR’s own tool room.

Assembly

Finished goods, sub-assemblies, and specialty kit packaging services are available on-site within our semi-clean dedicated assembly room. Our highly skilled staff puts together complex assemblies and provides complete testing and verification. Often times, we machine most of the components for the assembly here at CAR and procure any additional material. The customer places an order for a complete assembly and we do the rest. Reducing ordering complexity, and doing all the QC work here in our assembly room is a major value add for our customers.
