IATF 16949: 2016 and ISO 9001: 2015 Certified
CAR Engineering and Manufacturing is thrilled to announce that we have officially achieved IATF 16949: 2016 certification as well as certifying to ISO 9001:2015. For those of you who are unfamiliar with IATF 16949: 2016, it is the new standard in automotive certification and replaces TS 16949: 2009. This new certification standard was set by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and is much more rigorous than the TS 16949: 2009 standard it replaced. The IATF 16949 standard requires more metrics, more risk-based thinking, and much more emphasis on customer specific requirements with an extra special emphasis on safety. All great things for our business to have a renewed focus on. As we learned during the audit, the IATF 16949 standard’s goals are to push this quality management system all the way down the supply chain. Automotive customers and potential clients preserve your own supply chain for your own upcoming IATF 16949: 2016 audit by having all your stamping and machining business sourced with an IATF 16949 supplier like your friends at CAR.
The audit was a duel IATF 16949 and ISO 9001:2015 audit so CAR was also pleased to certify to this new standard which replaced ISO 9001:2008. This standard applies to our entire business so if you are not in the automotive industry don’t feel left out. We are very proud of the systems we have put in place to meet these standards and we feel that it will reap many benefits for both our business as well as our customers. Welcome Robert Cook: Quality Engineer
Rob Cook QC Engineer
Please welcome our newest member of the management team- QC Engineer Robert Cook. Rob has been a friend of the company for over 15 years and we were thrilled when we were finally able to bring him on board. Rob has known some of CAR’s key employees such as Tool Room Supervisor Todd Guarino and Tool and Die Makers Rick Pecora and Mike Goungo for years since all four gentlemen worked as die makers at Hilton Tool and Die. After Hilton closed Rob moved on to Trident Manufacturing where he served two years there as a Die Maker.
In 2005 Rob struck out on his own and started Cook Tool and Die. A successful small business where as the owner/operator he mastered all tasks. During this period CAR was a small customer of Rob’s reaching out when we had excess work in our tool room. We were always impressed with the quality of parts we got back from Cook Tool and Die. Apparently, CAR wasn’t the only one impressed with Rob because in 2015 his customer, Higgins Supply Company Inc. purchased Cook Tool and Die and Rob to signed on as their general manager. It was a great position but Higgins location in Cortland, NY proved to be a long commute for the Rochester native so when the QC Engineer position because available, the timing was right. Rob’s full understanding of both CNC machining as well Tool and Die building and stampings experience make him an ideal candidate for this position. Welcome Rob!
WBENC and ITAR- Re-Certification
CAR also successfully re-certified as a WBENC company- certified woman owned business with the national certifying body Women’s President’s Organization. This means that any dollar spent at CAR counts towards a qualifying purchase with a diverse company. For an updated certification, please click here. Additionally, CAR re-registered with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and is again ITAR registered. ITAR registration means we have permission to work on projects related to defense or national security. Kent receives his clock
Kent was recognized at the Sept. 2017 employee meeting for 10 years of service. Kent works in our tool room as a Tool and Die Maker. CAR is something of a second career for Kent who took an early retirement from Rochester Products after working in their tool room for 30 years. An extremely talented Die Maker, Kent is frequently the “go to” guy in the tool room. Due to his ability to teach and mentor as well as his vast knowledge Kent has also trained many of CAR’s apprentices.
Jerame Weirich
Yvette pays tribute to sleeveless shirt fan Jerame
At the same meeting another fantastic employee- Jerame W. was also recognized for 10 years with the company. Jerame started in our CNC area on night shift. He quickly picked up the trade and was recognized for his mechanical aptitude. We had an opening on day shift in our stampings department and management felt Jerame would be an ideal candidate to learn the stampings side of the business. As predicted he excelled in that area and is now one of our best set-up people in our multi-slide area.
Carrie Hause
Carrie Hause 10 years and counting!
At our February employee meeting Carrie Hause was recognized for her 10 years of service to the company. Many loyal newsletter readers know Carrie (or feel like they know her) since as our scheduler she is the day to day contact for many customers and vendors. Carrie started as an administrative assistant but quickly progressed into her current role. CAR has over 70 unique customers, thousands of parts, and ships to over 20 countries. No doubt she is both busy and extremely organized, congrats Carrie.
Peter Specksgoor
Best 30 years of his life! Congrats Pete Specksgoor
CAR was extremely proud to recognize our third ever employee (we were founded in 1986) to hit 30 years of service- master CNC mill machinist Peter Specksgoor. Many loyal newsletter readers are familiar with our founder, Charlie Rogers. According to Charlie, Peter Specksgoor is the most talented machinist he has ever known and we at CAR second that! Our most complex and difficult to machine CNC parts are often initially routed through Pete. In 30 years’ time Pete has kept up with the trade going from working on a manual mill at our old facility on Monroe Ave in Pittsford to now programming CNC parts using MasterCam and running our multi-axis CNC mills. Pete and his wife Debbie have two adult sons- Andrew and David. Both boys logged a few summers during their high school years helping out at CAR, so it has been a family affair.
For those that know Pete his passion is boating. That made his custom gift easy. A very generous gas card to be used at the harbor where is stores his boat along with a gift card to West Marine for a new radar system for his boat. See you on the water this summer Pete!
Steve Cheesman
From apprentice to mill programmer- Steve Cheesman
Last but certainly not least CNC mill machinist Steve Cheesman has achieved 10 years of service with CAR in March 2018. A really great hire- Steve applied to the company with little machining experience but was willing to learn the trade from the ground up. CAR recognized his passion and skills and quickly sponsored him for the NYS apprenticeship program in machining. Steve completed his apprenticeship in 2012 and is now a journeyman machinist. His mentor was none other than Pete Specksgoor, featured above. Now a top level machinist and programmer Steve is critical to the success in the mills. He has also become very proficient with our newest mills the 2 Mazak 530C. Thank you for your service Steve.
Baby Watch- Carrie Hause
Bumping along…CAR’s magic fertility water strikes again
The only employee to get a double mention in the newsletter, Carrie “Care Bear” Hause and husband Rob are expecting baby number 2 this June. Baby Hause will be joined by big brother Ivan and depending on how things go the two could even share a birthday. Carrie’s official due date is May 31st and Ivan turns four on June 8th. The couple wants to be surprised by the baby’s gender so please continue to read the newsletter for the upcoming baby announcement. Carrie will be taking maternity leave but will return to her position so fans of Carrie do not despair; our strong office team is prepared to cover in her absence. Fingers crossed for safe and speedy delivery Carrie.
